Multimodal Walking Methodologies: Seminar Workshop

How do we walk with the city—not just through it? 

Grounded in walking methodologies (Springgay & Truman) and guided by decolonial and post‑humanist perspectives, we'll explore how sketching, photography, video, and audio recording can help us attend to the more‑than‑human worlds we move through—streets, buses, and the everyday landscapes that surround us.

Each week we focus on a different mode:

Session 1: Sketching: Attunement through mark‑making

Session 2: Photography: Framing the more‑than‑human 

Session 3: Video: Walking with the moving gaze 

Session 4: Audio: Deep listening to the soundscape 

Autoethnography & Autotheory as Decolonial Praxis: A Proseminar Workshop

Exploring the powerful potential of autoethnography and its contemporary extension, autotheory, not just as methods, but as radical, heart-centred practices for social justice. We will move beyond simply "writing about yourself." 
 

Session 1: Foundation: The Epistemology of the Personal 

Session 2: Weaving: Autoethnography & Autotheory 

Session 3: Expanding: Gathering, Analyzing, and Representing the Self 

Session 4: Impact: From Writing to Social Healing

Playing with Data: Transforming Qualitative Research into Art

Moving far beyond traditional coding matrices,we explore raw research materials such as transcripts, field notes, archival texts, and institutional documents as dynamic artistic mediums. 

Session 1: Tactile Textures: Deconstructing Data through Paper and Print

Session 2: The Echoing Voice: Found/Black-out Poetry and Speculative Narratives

Session 3: Embodied Evidence: Scoring and Performing the Transcript

Session 4: Vibrant Shadows: Mapping Meaning Through Pigment and Line

Sensory Ethnography

Moving beyond ocularcentric data collection, the course explores how people perceive, remember, hear, smell, and emotionally navigate their worlds. Participants will learn how to design collaborative fieldwork that captures embodied, tacit, and more-than-verbal experiences alongside participants in diverse social settings.

Session 3: Listening: Vibration, Audio, and Sound

Session 4: Smelling and Beyond: Visceral, Emotional, and Transpersonal Senses
